Not long ago I had an opportunity to get a Kamado Joe cooker and I jumped on the opportunity to try it out. Now, in my time I have had the opportunity to use a few other cookers that are similar to the Kamado Joe, but I have to admit, so far this is my favorite. But, this ain’t a post intending to compare the Kamado Joe to other ceramic style cookers. In fact I just wanna take some time and talk about the many ways that I have been able to use the Joe and explain how pleasantly surprised I was when I opened the box.
First of all, one of the coolest parts of this whole deal was the fact that the stand and bamboo shelves came standard with the Joe. I did get hooked up with a ceramic heat deflector also, but the importance of that we will talk about a little later. Up until this point I had only seed the Joe in red, but to my surprise I got lucky and got this sweet black cooker and that made me Happy, Happy, Happy!
Alright, let me get into the meat and taters of this whole post. I truly just wanted to talk about how versatile this cooker really is. I mean there is nothing that I can’t do with a Kamado Joe Ceramic Cooker. This thing is a grill, smoker, pizza oven, and just plain old awesome cooker. I cook everything on here.
When I drop the ceramic heat deflector in and add some Baxter’s Original wood chunks to the Kamado Joe hardwood lump coal I immediately have a smoker for slow and low cooking ribs, chicken, brisket, and even turkey breasts.
I have removed the heat deflector and lowered the grill and used it as a direct heat grill for steaks, burgers, fish, and shrimp. I have made kabobs and have grilled plenty of veggies on this thing as a grill.
Then, I have reversed the heat deflector so that it sits directly below the grill which turned this thing into a fantastic wood burning pizza oven. When I tell you it makes delish pizza, I am in no way exaggerating on the deliciousness of the thang.
Don’t just take my word for it, just take a look at a few of the things we have thrown on the Joe and there isn’t one thing that I haven’t been happy with!
